What training is available to volunteers?
Training varies from task to task. After filling out an application, the volunteer meets with the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss interests and goals. At that time, the volunteer requests certain skills or training that is desired. The Volunteer Coordinator works to connect the volunteer with an appropriate assignment and support staff who then guides and directs the service. Prior to beginning the task, the staff will give an overview of the task, directions on how to complete the task, an orientation to systems and potential equipment that may be used, and discuss safety. City staff will then work with the volunteer to meet some of the volunteer’s training requests through in-service opportunities, workshops, or conferences.
