What trends, if any, have you noticed in how parents are approaching childrens nutritional needs?
I would be surprised if I could find anyone who is not aware that obesity in this country is a growing problem and one that we dont have a handle on yet. It is a multi-faceted problem; one that has to do with behaviors, beliefs, nutritional practices, and balance of physical activity. There is certainly a major focus on encouraging children and their parents to improve their health by controlling weight, eating healthier and increasing exercise. What are some ways to fight the obesity epidemic? Behavioral interventions are very important and they should include the entire family. Family eating practices and parent role-modeling have been shown to make a big difference. Effective interventions for children require the involvement of the family as a whole. Changes families can make include cutting down on the amount of processed and prepared packaged foods as well as fast foods they eat; preparing and eating more meals at home; involving their children in the process of grocery shopping,
