The District Attorney’s Office prosecutes felony criminal cases only. (Except for bad checks.) There are two kinds of crimes. A. Misdemeanors crimes that are handled in justice and municipal courts. These are punishable up to one (1) year in the county jail or a fine is imposed. B. Felony cases are punishable for more than one (1) year with sentences served in the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC).
