What type of music does Johann S Bach compose?
Johann Sebastian’s Bach composed what is commonly referred to (historically speaking) as ‘Baroque Music’, which means that it was composed from about 1600-1750. Handel, along with Bach, made use of and indeed helped developed the ‘type’ of music that included the use of HOMOPHONY, the birth of opera, the rise of instrumental music and the establishment of certain fixed musical forms such as the TRIO SONATA, DA CAPO ARIA, and later the RECITATIVE, CONCERTO AND SONATA. Bach wrote all of these; including hundreds of Cantatas, basically for the Lutheran Church since all of his employment involved it. However he wrote a group of secular cantatas as well. His music covers the gamut of sounds and he is certainly a ‘giant’ among composers. Some of his most beloved works are: B minor mass, St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion.
