What type of paint should i use on a textured ceiling?

After doing some research, i discovered that most home-improvement stores sell "ceiling paint." This paint supposedly has a different formulation to better stick to downward-facing surfaces. My understanding is that they also spatter less so that the painter doesn't get too messy.  more
