What type of poem (eg. sonnet, ballad) would this poem be?

Sonnets and ballads are both grouped as “Forms”, a series of kinds of poetry each with a defined structure such as number of lines, rhyme scheme, metre etc. etc. The form of the sonnet has, among other attributes, a length of 14 lines so your poem is not a sonnet. Ballads stanzas are of the form: ti tum ti tum ti tum ti tum ti tum ti tum ti tum ti tum ti tum ti tum ti tum ti tum ti tum ti tum so it is not ballad. In point of fact the rules for the various forms are are quite tight, so unless you have a standard form in mind before you write it is unlikely to fit into any of them accidentally. So if it doesn’t fit into any of these patterns what is it called? The usually term for poems that do not follow rules of any of the various forms – rhymed or unrhymed – is “free verse”, often known by its French equivalent “vers libre”.
