What type of refrigerant does a 1992 Lincoln town car use?

0

I have a high end 1992 Town Car Cartier and want to recharge the AC but am told it may contain R-12 which would require a costly retrofit to R134A. Others have told me that some Lincoln’s in late 1992 did come with R-134A. Any thoughts on which type would be more likely to be the case and if necessary, how expensive would a retrofit from R-12 to R-134A be? Thank’s! A: Some manufacturers used R-12 up through the 1993 model years, and switched to R-134 with the 1994 models. The EPA banned the production of R-12 ( Freon ) in the US effective January 1, 1996. More than likely your car was built to use R-134a refrigerant though. If it used R-12 originally though and has been converted to use the R-134a refrigerant, the attachment points where you hook up the hoses to recharge the A/C system will have also been changed. Different fittings for using R-12 vs R-134a. If the cars A/C system has been serviced and been functioning over the years I am sure it has probably been converted over to R-1
