What type of shade awnings will the NSSP fund?
The focus of the National Solar Schools Program is promoting the installation of renewable power systems and energy efficiency measures. The primary purpose of a shade awning should be to provide shade to an existing school building, reducing the need for air-conditioning and improving energy efficiency. Where the awning also provides shade for students, this is a secondary benefit. The awning must be retractable in temperate climates. The program does not fund structures where the primary purpose is to provide shade to students.
