What types of goats does Summerhill Dairy milk?
We milk a variety of goats – Alpine, LaMancha, Nubian, Sanaan and Toggenburg. Each breed has its own unique characteristics that contribute to the mild and delicious flavor of our milk. What do Summerhill Dairy goats eat? Although goats are notoriously curious and will try out many tastes and textures (our paperwork, clothing, boots, etc!) they are very picky eaters. We ensure that they get the nutrients and vitamins they need by providing a ration of grain that includes these nutrients and vitamins. Summerhill Dairy’s goats eat an all vegetarian diet. They are never fed anything that contains animal by-products. Mostly our goats eat alfalfa or oat hay. Although we are not able to find organic feed for our goats, we do work to ensure that the feed they get is as natural as possible. How are Summerhill Goats cared for?
