Eukaryotic cells are more organized and complex than prokaryotic cells. Various membrane-bound organelles do special tasks within the cells; these include the nucleus (which contains the cell’s genetic material), the mitochondria (where respiration takes place), and, if the cells are part of a plant or other producer, the chloroplasts (where photosynthesis takes place).
