What voltage and current are needed to ignite a High Power Rocketry igniter?
Most ignition systems for High Power Rocketry tend to use a minimum of 6 volts to a maximum of 12 volts at a current draw of a peak of 10 amps (this normally means that motorcyle batteries, or occasionally car batteries are used as the ignition power source). Generally, batteries of a couple of Amp hours are acceptable. The key is to have sufficiently capable cable for the connection from the launch controller and battery to the igniter in the rocket motor. Larger, thicker cables are better than small, thin cables.
