What was ancient Sparta most famous for?
The very word “Spartan” has come to be a euphanism for ‘grim, austure & tough’ in the English language. Some examples: Spartan slaves were treated so cruely, revolts happened on an almost monthly basis Spartans OUTLAWED gold & silver. Their currency was huge IRON ‘coins’. This ensured that no merchants, bankers, carnivals, harlot-mongers, etc. EVER went to sparta. At the age of 7 or so, Spartan boys went to live in academies where they would experience the most grueling life. At 16, they were forced to live by stealing, but if caught, they could be whipped to death. Spartan men’s supper consisted of ‘black broth’…made of pork & pig’s blood. (ONE sip of this stuff & you’d understand why the spartans were so willing & eager to die!)* Eating at home was outlawed! Men had to take their meals in public ‘ mess-clubs’.
