Answer Hi Donna. Elvis’ natural hair was a sandy blonde. As a teen he had a special inexpensive concoction he used on his hair to “slick it back”, and that made it look darker. Elvis began coloring his hair a darker shade after he started entertaining. Eventually it got to darkest black. He liked it dark and by then that was part of the Elvis personae which he had to maintain for his fans. His mother was a brunette, and his father a blonde. His beloved mother reportedly died her hair darker as well, and Elvis seemed to go even darker after her death. Recently, Elvis’ famous mane was voted the number 1 Iconic Hairstyle of all time.
