I’m not sure why someone would want to pick apart “Casablanca”, the little film that should have failed but became one of the most beloved movies of all time. This was written as partial propaganda of course, and the writers were absolutely making it up as they went along. Do you realize that, at that time, news traveled so poorly that they rarely were aware of what was going on “over there”? I’ve read newspapers from that time in connection with war news. Just prior to the Invasion of Poland, Adolph Hitler was named one of the most eligible bachelors in the world! That was front page news, along with the story of a New York showgirl who wanted to go to Germany to meet him. They didn’t know the details, of course, so they improvised.
