Nazi racial beliefs regarding the ‘master aryan race’ were unrelated to allying with Italy. The justification was purely centred around political and military dominance in the Mediterranean. Hitler knew that his Italian collaborators could invade North Africa and threaten the Suez Canal – the lifeline of Britain. This small sea passage passed in between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, providing an essential route of transport for offensive naval ships or ones carrying resources or reinforcements.
