What was life like in Mexico in Victorian times?
Queen Victoria live and ruled England for a long long time, so she witness the rise of a divided nation, split by race, political ideas , extremely catholic, and with a powerful catholic church that inquired a lot in every single aspect of mexican life , from education to health but also as lenders of a country that didn´t found a leadership until the arrival of President Diaz in the 1880´s, and also did not seen it self as a nation up until the defeat of the french imposed “Mexican empire” ruled by Maximilian from the Hapsburg Family. So life for Mexico was a constant war, and at the end of the rule of Queen victoria she saw a nation at peace, with a Dictator ruling the country and trying to emulate everything that was European. President Porfirio Diaz (1880-1910) was his name, and in Mexican history is know as the “Porfiriato” period.
