What was ROLAND BARTHES Theory?
Listen…Roland Barthes’ theory can b summarised in the concept of “Death of the Author”. Which means that you ignore the author totally and rely on the TEXT to generate meaning…. sign, signified, signifier, his msgs n codes are simply teh basis to analyse without taking into account any ‘author’.. signifier is the alpabeths strung together without any indication of its meaning (for example, the alpahabets ‘DOG’ do not call to mind a four legged furry creature if u ddint already knw zat D O G refers to that particular four-legged furry creature… signified on teh otehrhand refrs to the MEANING of teh alphabets strung together. (this concept is Ferdinan de Saussure’s and it was adapted by Chomsky to illustrate his point abt language) teh three messages are the three types of meaning associated with any piece of narrative and ‘connotations and dennotations’ are the ‘veiled meaning’ of the narrative: cud b footnotes for example but more lik references to other meanings than teh one sta
