What was the basic difference between brutus and antonys speech?
Brutus’ speech is a rhetorically ineffective one since he fails to really identify with his audience: he assumes that the people are on his side and that they would rather be free than slaves. Brutus also speaks very plainly (in prose) while Antony speaks extremely eloquently (in verse). Antony also knows just how to rile up the audience and he does so by showing the people Caesar’s body and reading them his will. In short, Antony is a much better speaker than Brutus is; Antony was able to persuade the people to his ends while Brutus’ words almost fell on deaf ears.
