What was the Demonstration Phase?

The Demonstration Phase was a specific phase of the SOL Technology Initiative planned by the Department of Education in order to 1) show the viability of delivering online SOL tests in Virginia, and 2) gain a clearer understanding of the technical and assessment issues associated with delivering high stakes tests electronically over the Internet. Nine high schools served as “demonstration sites” where three selected vendors implemented their test delivery software, trained members of the high schools’ faculty and staff, and in the spring of 2001, conducted simulated online SOL tests with the high school students.
