The Eastern Neighborhoods Community Health Impact Assessment (ENCHIA) was an 18-month long process (November 2004 – May 2006) to assess how land use development in San Francisco can best promote the conditions required for health. Convened and facilitated by the Program on Health, Equity, and Sustainability at the SF Department of Public Health, ENCHIA was guided by a multi-stakeholder Community Council of over 20 diverse organizations whose interests were affected by development processes. The assessment focused on health needs and assets in several San Francisco neighborhoods, including the Mission, South of Market, and Potrero Hill. • What were the goals of ENCHIA?
