Macy’s employees marched from 145 street to 34 street dressed up as characters andw ith animals from the Central Park zoo.

The first gigantic balloons to grace Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was Felix the Cat in 1927. Before then, there were floats and costumes. It was a tradition for awhile to release the balloons for someone to catch it. Now that is no longer a tradition.
