What was the first tornado climatology?
John P. Finley, in the 1880s, was the first person to intensively study U.S. tornadoes and their patterns of occurrence. His pioneering volume Tornadoes (1887) discussed his effort-intensive compilation of tornado records, as well as many (now outmoded) safety and meteorological notions about tornadoes.
