What was the price that Galileo Galilei paid for his belief and discovery?

0

Galileo was ordered to stand trial on the suspect of Heresy in 1633. He held the opinion that the sun was the centre of the universe and did not move, that the Earth is not the centre of the universe and does move and these opinions were contrary to the Scriptures. After his trial he was ordered imprisoned which was later changed to house arrest. All his works were forbidden including any he may create in the future. He did recant his theory, yet still muttered that the earth moved. His mutterings were not proved and may be only a legend.
