What wasnt allowed to happen in the warsaw ghetto?
Of course they prayed; you can’t forbid that. If you ban church/synagogue services, people can pray silently. As far as possible, the Jews of the ghetto carried on as normal. They prayed, did housework, made music (including one or two original operas performed there) – and waited to be called for the next transport to Auschwitz. When they realised what was happening, they fought, but it was too late to alter much. As far as food is concerned, there was little of it. I have been told that they tried to keep kosher households, but in the circumstances it was impossible. In Jewish law, preservation of life always trumps ritual, so I don’t suppose they felt guilty about that. Precisely what the arrangements were for collecting rations, I do not know.
