What were hippies for?

0

Hippies were originally war protestors. Their movement was meant to end the Vietnam War, but through an unclear combination of anti-peace sentiment on the part of their opposition and the drug abuse that reflected negatively on their credibility in the social and political realm, their culture started to decline into a loose, pocketed shadow of its original ideals and ways of life. Today, there are those that carry on their tradition through protests and peaceful lifestyles, but others who adopt the culture as they explore the world of drugs. Both groups are two faces on the same culture. Beliefs vary as far as which face better defines the people, but the fact is that every living hippie must accept both. Between not feeling as dedicated a peaceful world and not wanting to be associated with irresponsible substance abuse, the subculture has inevitably deteriorated into a shadow of its formerly staggering existence in America.
