Even though the Irish technically lost the Rising, it boosted the morale of the Irish and started a chain of significant future events. The martyrs that died as a result of the Rising significantly boosted Sinn Fein’s popularity. Consequently, the Dáil Eireann was established in 1919. This eventually became the legitimate government for the Republic of Ireland. The key figures of the Rising were certainly not viewed as the ‘heroes’ we know of today.
