What were the economic causes and moralistic justifications of the Spanish American War and WWI?

The Spanish American War was a war nothing short of an Imperialistic policy that the United States was adopting, to keep up with the European powers that were carving up the world, and to kick that Spanish out of our himisphere. The U.S. also wanted the sugar cain coming from Cuba, that at the time was only going to Spain. WWI The only reason the United States officialy joined World War I, was unrestricted Submarine Warfare. But even thogh the Zimmerman Telegrham may have fueled support for the war. I’m not sure what we gained economicaly from WWI. But as you may know the United Staes had an Economic boom after the war.
