Noting that these are three entirely seperate subjects and that both the caste system and serfdom have been covered exstensively I will merely give insight for the rise of slavery. Slavery was a responce to the age old question; ‘what to do with one’s vanquished enemies after battle.’ One could simply kill off one’s enemies and be done with the whole issue or one can set them free but then one’s enemies might regroup and fight again so that left the alternative of making them slaves. For many early tribes, as evidence by Native American Cultures, slavery was a probationary period after a slave had proven their loyalty to the tribe they were often absorbed into the tribe and essentially free. However as man became more civilized oddly enough the attitude toward slavery changed for the worse. ‘Civilizations’ such as the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Phonecians used slavery as a means of humbling their enemies and to send a clear message to other nations/tribes that should they fight and los
