What Were The Wonders Of The Ancient World?
Monuments of outstanding architecture built for various reasons and built before the Medieval Age were known as the wonders of the ancient world. There were seven of them of which only the Pyramids survive to this day. The rest of them are accounted for through archeological finds and records of them found in writings. Giza’s Great Pyramid built as a tomb in honour of the great Pharaoh Khufu whose reign lasted from 2551 BC to 2528 BC is the only wonder from that age still existing. It is also the largest structure built of stone ever. Then there were the hanging gardens in Babylon, present day Iraq, the great lighthouse of Alexandria, the Colossus at Rhodes, The temple of Artemis, Halicarnassus’s Mausoleum and Zeus’s statue at Olympus.
