What will be built on the Center Street N.E. site in Salem?
DHS contracted with the Hammes Company to perform due diligence on the site to ensure that a new 620-bed mental health recovery facility can be developed on approximately 100 acres of the state-owned property south of Center Street N.E., which is part of the existing state hospital site. Although Hammes Company representatives did not find anything that would prevent locating the new facility on this site, they did identify challenges to the project including the provision of quality care to patients during construction and concerns about historical properties and trees.
