What will be the impact of BRAC 2005 on Fort Monmouth?
On Aug. 24, 2005 the BRAC commission endorsed the recommendation made by the Department of Defense announced May 13, 2005 to close Fort Monmouth. Those recommendations became effective Nov. 9, 2005 according to the Base Realignment and Closure Act of 1990. Accordingly, Fort Monmouth will close no later than Sept. 15, 2011. The majority of the organizations and personnel positions now operating at Fort Monmouth will re-locate to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. and Fort Belvoir, Va. Currently, a departure schedule for Fort Monmouth organizations has not been established.
