What Will the Stream Restoration Work Involve?
Restoration work will likely begin in late summer or fall 2010 and will involve restoring 8,500 feet of degraded stream, preserving 11 acres of wetlands, one mile of the Rivanna Trail, and a total of 73 acres of land. The work will entail reducing the steep height of the stream banks, realigning the stream channel, adding meanders and in-stream habitat structures, and planting trees to enhance the forested buffer along the stream. A conceptual stream restoration design has been completed. Additional data collection, surveying, and modeling will be completed to aid in the development of a final design.
