What year was Frank H. Fleer born?
Frank Henry Fleer was born in 1860. He died in 1921. He joined the business in a factory operations capacity after marrying Otto Holstein’sdaughter. Otto Holstein was a German Quaker who built a flavoring extracts factory in Philadelphia.
Fleer took over operations in the 1880s. It wasn’t until 1885 that Fleer’scompany began making chewing gum, adding flavorings to the chiclegum base which was popular at the time. Chicle was a popular exttract made from the dried sap from the South and Central American sapodilla tree. Yum.
