What years did Kentucky win the NCAA basketball championship?

0

Kentucky has won seven postseason NCAA Tournament Championships: 1948, 1949, 1951, 1958, 1978, 1996, and 1998. Kentucky has won the postseason National Invitational Tournament (NIT) twice, in 1946 and in 1976. In 1946, the NIT was considered by many to be as prestigious as the NCAA Tournament. Kentucky was awarded the Helms Foundation Championship for 1933, as this pre-dated the NCAA Tournament and the NIT. Kentucky was the Associated Press (AP) National Champion in 1954; they finished the season undefeated (25-0), but declined a bid to the NCAA Tournament because three of their top players were graduate students and at that time were considered ineligible for NCAA Tournament play. Therefore, Kentucky can claim some form of basketball championship during the following seasons: 1933, 1946, 1948, 1949, 1954, 1958, 1978, 1996, and 1998.
