Whats a good karaoke song for a battered wife?
Assuming you are staying to true to Two’s setting in time an place (late 1980s, pub in northern England), I’d be looking at something in a Soulish vein that was actually popular in England prior to 1989 and likely to be on karaoke then. Not sure what affect you are going for with the karaoke piece – something with pathos/bathos to supplement the overall ‘trapped’ mien, or maybe something up to juxtapose the human frailty on display, so here’s a list of possibilities: Don’t leave me this way – Thelma Houston/Communards Chain of fools – Aretha Franklin Macarthur park – (various) Levi Stubb’s tears – Billy Bragg Ain’t no sunshine – Bill Withers Jealous guy – Lennon/Roxy music I’ve Never Been to Me – Charlene Total eclipse of the heart – Bonnie Tyler Hello – Lionel Richie Careless whisper – Wham I got you babe – Sonny & Cher/Chrissie Hynde & UB40 A good heart – Feargal Sharkey Stand by me – Ben E.
