I used to enjoy meatballs with sauce and pasta. But now that I am vegetarian, can anyone of you recommend good, tasty vegetarian substitutes to use instead of meatballs? Thanks in advance! So, I’d prefer a meat substitute that’s readily available. A: I am a former chef and eat alot of vegetarian meals becauce of my medical condition, and I have found TVP ( Textured Vegetable Protein) is a good meat like substitute. I chop my onions and add them with my olive oil in a hot pan, brown them and then add a cup of TVP and let that toast for 5-10 minutes, then add my tomato products and dried herbs, slow cook it for 30 minutes and season it, sometimes I add fresh basil at the end for zip.
