Whats a low price but still good quality multi-tool?”

Hubby & I have each bought several multi-tools in the past few years (partly because we forget to take them out of the carry-on luggage! ) Lately we have been buying Gerber ones; similar quality to Leatherman and Swiss Army/Victor at a more reasonable price. The Gerber Clutch and Shortcut tools (one has pliers plus the usual others: knife, screwdrivers, file, bottle-opener; the other has scissors and the same assortment of others) can generally be had for $14.95. If a larger multi-tool with more features is desired, check out the Gerber Suspension or Method tools. They are both available in the $30-45 range. Another one that I’m tempted to get, not because I need another multi-tool but just because it is so darn cute/funky-looking is the Columbia River Guppie! I’ve seen it listed several places for $24.95.

I’d have to say that Gerber and Leatherman both make excellent multi-tools. They’re pretty rugged, have plenty of models, and I’m sure you could find one that you like with a good price. I carry the original Gerber Multi-pliers in my car and fishing bag at all times. If you’re looking for a powered multi-tool, lots of people swear by the Dremel Rotary tool. It has a huge array of different attachments for all kinds of jobs (cutting, drilling, polishing, etc). I know engineers at IBM that swear by these things.
