Both allow you to dock most iPods and enjoy rich, brilliant music. The big difference is that the Portable has a rechargeable lithium ion rechargeable battery so that you can operate it without AC power. The Portable has a retracting docking pedestal which rotates into the body when an iPod isn't docked on it. Each has an auxiliary input so you can use them with virtually any portable device such as non-iPod MP3 players, notebook computers, portable CD players, etc. A custom carry case is available for each type of SoundDock®s. Extra rechargeable batteries are available for the Portable model. more
