Whats Braintree (Essex) like?
Braintree is OK. It’s got a great out-of-town shopping village, is brilliantly positioned for Stansted Airport, it has good access to the M11 to the west, and to Chelmsford and Colchester for serious shopping to the south and east. Carry on heading east and you hit the coast at Clacton or Walton which I think are very pleasant. Braintree has OK schools, a local college and a fair mix of housing. The by-pass is a dominant feature of the road network – It’s horrible but it works. All around, there are some attractive towns and villages (e.g. Thaxted, Finchingfield). Braintree is not perfect, but it’s not bad at all.
