Whats involved in dental implantation?
In the first one or two appointments, the post or anchor is implanted in the jaw. The replacment tooth, bridge or denture is fitted and installed when the bone and gums have healed. Surgery may be performed in an office or hospital with local or general anesthesia. For more information on the procedure of dental implantation, click here.
Implantation is a lengthy procedure, typically done under anesthesia. It involves the implanting of the anchor into the jaw and then a healing process which could take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months depending on how quickly you heal. Once the gums have healed, x-rays, impressions and bite records may be required to get your new teeth (which have been made and fitted to the posts) to properly fit your individual jaw and mouth.
