Whats keeping health care CIOs up at night?
Not RHIOs … In the midst of such long-term NHIN planning are the day-to-day operational imperatives of CIOs and health IT leaders. This year marks the 17th Annual HIMSS Leadership Survey, sponsored by ACS Healthcare Solutions. The survey found that the top priorities for CIOs and IT directors are to reduce medical errors and promote patient safety, implement an EHR and connect IT at remote locations. The largest difference this year compared with 2005 is that many more health IT leaders are focusing on implementing EHRs – 45% this year, versus 29% last year. More health IT leaders also are squarely focused on patient satisfaction. It seems the age of consumerism in health care finally has reached the health CIO’s office, with more than half of respondents citing patient satisfaction as a top business challenge for health care.
