Whats more desireable: One 4 year BS degree or Four AS degrees in a related field?
I’m considering my options in college and have found that, in less time than it would take to get my BS in Computer Science I can get four AS degrees in Informtation Technology focussing on Applications, Networking, Programming and Internet Technologies. Which would be more desirable to potential employers? A: I would have to say, put in the time and get the 4 year degree (BS). Since you are thinking about 4 AS degrees, I would assume you are looking become more of a Software Engineer than you are a Computer Scientist. There is a slight difference. If you have your choice, look for a program that offers a BS in Software Engineering. Not that having a BS in Computer Science will prevent you from getting a job, but a BS in SE will focus more on the skills you seem to be looking for. Would 4 AS degrees prevent me from hiring you? No, most likely not, but it would make me wonder why you didn’t just go ahead and get a BS. You will however find some job postings that require a 4 year degree,
