That’s right — more people are injured or killed by whitetail deer than any other animal on the continent. In the last 10 years, there has been an 86 per cent increase in reported deer collisions in Ontario. In 2003, 13,729 deer collisions resulted in four deaths and more than 500 injuries. A vehicle collides with a dear every 38 minutes in this province. Deer/vehicle collisions can be very traumatic to drivers and passengers, not too mention the deer for which they are usually fatal. The mating season, which runs from October to January, is a high-risk time for your vehicle to encounter a deer on the road but there are efforts underway to educate and remind drivers to slow down and take precautions during this time.
