Whats Street Reconstruction (remove & replace)?
When a street undergoes reconstruction, the existing asphalt is entirely removed and replaced. Reconstruction is the most expensive resurfacing process the City of Loveland uses (approximately $12-$22/sq yd). Reconstruction is selected when a street is no longer repairable with the above operations. A road can fall into this state because of poor soil conditions, excessive traffic loads or problems with the original materials or construction. During reconstruction, a milling machine removes the existing pavement section for recycling; the subsurface soils are moisture conditioned and compacted to provide a solid foundation; and then several new layers of hot-mix asphalt are applied to restore the pavement section. A street will be closed entirely when this operation is conducted. Construction may last from a day to a week.
