I’ve done this….the opposite direction. Get onto Route 1, (East or West Putnam Avenue…wherever you are closest to) and ride into Port Chester, through the village along Boston Post Road. You will stay on Boston Post Road through Rye (the road is pretty narrow regarding bikers so be on the alert), Harrison, Mamaroneck, Larchmont, New Rochelle (which is Main & Huguenot Street) and Pelham Manor. My advice to avoid Boston Road in the Bronx because it is a rough part over the bridge…I should know, I used to live there….when you are in Pelham Manor, past the Gristedes & CVS, make a left turn onto Pelhamdale Avenue. You will ride that the entire length (under I-95 and past the train tracks). At the end of the road (Shore Road), make a right. Not only will you enter the Bronx via Pelham Bay Park, you will also find a bike trail which actually runs a long length…connects into Pelham Parkway and is actually very scenic. And you won’t go through the bad parts as long as you stay along P
