Whats the best way to measure vitamin E status of brood cows?
Several recent trials have found simple measurement of alpha-tocopherol levels in serum to be the most sensitive indicator of vitamin E status. Because vitamin E status varies greatly due to pasture quality and reproductive status (the cow “dumps” a lot of her E into colostrum after calving), extreme care must be exercised in interpreting results and setting a baseline.
