Whats the difference between a mixer and a blender?

A MIXER has no jar or container-it is a hand held ‘beater’ with usually 2 rotating ‘beater’ bars that you can pop off to clean. Almost like using two ‘whisks’ at the same time to mix stuff. A BLENDER is like a drink mixer-tall container, down at the bottom is your knife blades, normally 2 blades set across each other and permanently fixed to the ‘shaft’. You set this container on top of a motor base, fill with your ingredients, pop the top on (unless you want to WEAR the ingredients) and hit the button. Some blenders will have just a 2 position switch-low and high, others may have up to 6 or 8 ‘speed’ settings and maybe a ‘chop’ setting. This ‘blender’ is what you want for smoothies and soups-where all the ingredients end up chopped smooth. A mixer would be used for cake batter, pancake mix, whipped cream, things like that.
