Whats The Difference Between A Psychiatrist, A Psychologist, And A Psychoanalyst?
Psychiatrists are, first of all, medical doctors. They have medical degrees from a university and have undergone further specialist training in how to deal with the ailments of the mind. Psychologists have no medical training, but will have undergone instruction in psychology at a university or other advanced learning centre. A psychologist who practices as a therapist will have done further special training. Psychoanalysts are practitioners of a particular brand of psychotherapy, Freudian. Their approach is based on the work of the founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, who taught that psychological ailments, most of which he categorised as neuroses, could usually be traced to unresolved emotional conflicts relating to incidents which had often been forgotten by the person concerned.
