Yes, Pythons and boas are distantly related, and no, neither Boas nor Pythons are venomous. They kill their prey by constriction. If memory serves me correctly; there are several differences between boas and pythons. The most notable being that Pythons lay eggs and Boas give birth to live young; though there is a small species of Sand boa (Eryx Jayakari) that are egg-layers; oddly enough. They also are different in the areas of the world that they hail from. Boas are a primarily a New world species, so you can anticipate finding them in North America, South America, etc. whereas Pythons are an Old world species, so you will find them in places like Africa and Australia. Actually, neither the Black Mamba nor the Cobra is poisonous at all; they can be eaten or touched with no harm coming to the person doing the eating/touching. As far as which venom is more potent/which is more dangerous when injected into you, it depends on the species but as a whole I would have to say the Black Mamba.
