Whats the difference between a string quartet and a string trio?

0

A quartet has four people/instruments: two violins, viola, and cello. A trio has three instruments–only one violin, viola, and cello. Both can play roughly the same repertoire when it comes to weddings–the quartet sounds more full bodied, and would be a better choice for a large church or hall, whereas a trio would sound great for an intimate setting.
